A Jampacked Semester Awaits, Starting With Welcome Day For New families!
Thursday, September 1 is the Move-In and Welcome Day for new students and their families. Students enjoy this day as the first day of Welcome Week, which boasts many activities for them to get involved on campus, meet new people, and catch up with friends from orientation! Your student received an email to their Pride email account, with instructions about how to access the Welcome Week schedule, including a list of the Explore Next Door trips.
For parents and family members, Welcome Day features several events. Starting the day off, we have Parent and Family Check-In at the Intramural Fields in the Parent and Family tent, from 8 a.m. to 1:30pm. Your resident student received a specific time for move in in their housing assignment email. To avoid traffic on campus, please abide by that time. The commuting students and families start checking in at 11 a.m., also at the Intramural Fields. Check-in is a great time to ask any questions you may have about the move in process or about Hofstra in general. Family orientation leaders and Parent and Family Staff will be around to assist you at this time. Feel free to ask us how to sign up for Family Weekend! You may register online at hofstra.edu/FW.
The biggest event is the President’s Welcome. Our University President Stuart Rabinowitz, along with Vice President for Student Affairs Houston Dougharty, and Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Jessica Eads, will welcome you and your students to our amazing campus! At the end of the Welcome, parents and families will say goodbye to their students, as the students head off to the first event of the Welcome Week.
Our last event is the Parent and Family Reception with an optional mini-orientation. Branka Kristic, director of Parent and Family Programs will address how parents and families can get and stay involved within the Hofstra community. In addition, a panel of administrators will answer your questions about wellness, safety, dining, and campus life. This session will be useful to those families who did not get a chance to attend a summer Family Orientation.
Continuing students start moving in on Saturday, September 3, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Read more information about the move in. http://www.hofstra.edu/pdf/studentaffairs/StudentServices/reslife/reslife_MoveInBrochure.pdf .
Please note that the Student Financial Services, including Financial Aid and Bursar will be open Saturday and Sunday, September 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Welcome to Hofstra. We can’t wait to have you join the Pride!
