Student Counseling Services’ Weekly Groups

Hofstra University’s Student Counseling Services is offering a variety of groups for your student this Spring.

Is your student they having trouble communicating with roommates, a significant other, or building healthy relationships?  Our Healthy Relationship Group on Mondays at 7 p.m. can help. This group offers students new skills to develop healthy relationships, while learning signs to distinguish external relationships that have a negative impact on their life and academic success.

Is your student shy or anxious in social situations? Do they have trouble making new friends?Encourage your student to attend Social Anxiety Group on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. This group offers techniques to reduce anxiety in social situations with friends, professors, and roommates. Your student will also learn new strategies to become comfortable in social settings.

The Emotion Management Group on Fridays at 3 p.m. is designed to teach students how to manage intense feelings that may affect their daily coping skills.

Is your student feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty balancing academics stress? Refer your student to The Coping Essentials Group on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. This is a great way for your student to learn new ways to manage their thoughts, feelings and behaviors that impact their daily college career and personal relationships.

If your student is interested in cultivating their natural wisdom by meditation, advise your student to nurture their mindfulness through relaxation on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. at the Mindfulness Meditation Group. This is another inspiring group which focuses on, “building connectivity of mind, body and emotions,” by acquiring new strategies that will allow the student to relax and reduce anxiety or stress, while embracing the present moment.

The International Students Group is held on Thursdays at 7 p.m. helps international students adjust to cultural changes and new tactics of how to interact with their American peers.

Hofstra University is also offering a Recovery Group on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. that offers new learning techniques to maintain effective ways to coping with urges and managing a balanced life through recovery.

For more information, please encourage your student to contact Student Counseling Services at (516) 463-6791 or hofstra.edu/Student Counseling.  There is no charge for participation in groups.
