WELCOME DAY

For New Hofstra Community Members!

We are so excited to extend a warm welcome to all new incoming students and their families on Welcome Day Thursday, August 31!

The day starts with CHECK IN from 8:00am to 1:00pm

Students will start by checking in at the Hofcard tent to pick up their student ID. Family members, make sure to stop by the Parent and Family Programs tent! If you have any questions, would like to write a note to your student, or need help registering for Family Weekend, we are here to help!

From 2:45pm to 3:45pm Join Hofstra’s President Stuart Rabinowitz, along with Cabinet members and other faculty where they will host a welcome ceremony for all new students and their family members. Just remember: After the ceremony, it’s time to say goodbye to your student! Students will continue with Hofstra’s Welcome Week program (September 1-4). They will be engaged in events and sessions throughout Labor Day weekend.

4:00pm to 5:30pm is the FAMILY RECEPTION & MINI ORIENTATION. There will be a reception with refreshments and afterwards parents and family members learn how to become engaged members of Hofstra’s community. (Parents & guardians who did not attend this summer’s Family Orientation are especially encouraged to attend.)

10:00am-11:30 am

A workshop on “how to mentor your emerging adult.” Dr. Diane Herbert, Dean of the Center for Academic Excellence, Dr. Daniel Rinaldi, Staff Psychologist at the Student Health and Counseling Center, and Branka Kristic, Director of Parent and Family Programs, will host an interactive workshop to discuss the developmental milestones your student is going through and examine which parenting methods are effective with young and emerging adults.

As you can see we have so much planned to welcome our newest Hofstra community members! We look forward to meeting all of you on the Intramural fields on North Campus. For continuing students, the Welcome Week Schedule will be posted to the Guidebook App, which can be downloaded on an iPhone or Android.
